El Paso and Colorado Springs Officers Spread Cheer at 32nd Annual Shop with a Cop Event for Children with Cancer

In a heartening display of community solidarity, law enforcement officers from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with their comrades from the Colorado Springs Police Department in the 32nd annual Shop with a Cop event, which is much more than just a holiday shopping spree, it’s a lifeline of support for families touched by the harsh realities of childhood cancer and blood disorders. The event hosted by Candlelighters of Southern Colorado saw these officers stroll down the aisles of a local Target, not in pursuit of crime, but to help select toys and clothes that would bring a bit of holiday cheer to these young warriors and their kin.

According to El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the giving spirit was abundant as each child received a gift certificate from Target, and many families were paired with more than one uniformed officer who were all too willing to ensure that the season sparkled a little brighter for those facing such daunting challenges, challenges that might shrink the broadest of shoulders but here seemed to foster a unique kind of fellowship between badge and civilian…
