BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff District Attorney’s Office will investigate the fatal police shooting of Jamal Williams, which occurred Nov. 28, according to the Birmingham Police Department on Monday.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency assumed the investigation into the shooting after it happened. The ALEA, however, dropped its investigation after the BPD released bodycam footage of the shooting to the public Wednesday.

Pickett said there was a need to be transparent with Birmingham residents. At Wednesday’s press conference, he talked about what led to the shooting. He shared surveillance footage of what happened minutes before the shooting and bodycam video showing the shooting.
In the bodycam camera footage, one person can be heard stating “he got a gun in the back” as officers move to confront Williams. As officers approached Williams can be seen pulling what police said is a gun from the front pocket of his hoodie, where he was then shot by an unidentified officer…
