GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville County Councilman Joey Russo confirmed he will not run for reelection.
Russo was elected to council in 2022. He served District 17, which includes Travelers Rest, Slater-Marietta, Cleveland, River Falls, Tigerville and Gowensville.
“Today’s Greenville is a much different place than when I started my journey in to politics back in February of 2021. I was 28 at the time with practically no political ties or affiliations to speak of, I worked for almost 18 months to earn the honor of serving on Greenville County Council. After a hard-fought victory and securing the election in November 2022, I officially became the Councilman for District 17, my home. When I think about all the time and events over the past few years, I’m reminded of how much I leaned on the Lord to guide my steps. Now that the time has come to decide my future on Council, I have truly taken it out my hands and put it into His. While part of me would like to continue serving as Councilman, I can’t help but feel a subtle pull. Sometimes that pull is in the form of small but mighty hands of one of my children, grabbing me and crying as I leave for another meeting.
