LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Photos show two Clark County firefighters were chemically burned at Elon Musk’s The Boring Co. Vegas Loop site, but more details explain how.
On Dec. 2024, The Clark County Fire Department conducted full-scale training practicing a simulated recovery mission of an injured drill site worker, based a real incident. Two of the firefighters went without proper protection and were chemically burned from a sludge at the bottom of the tunnel, documents show.
Last month Nevada state officials responded to allegations the citation issued and the $400,000 fines were dropped due to alternative motivations and instead pointed to legally insufficient arguments.
“At the beginning of the meeting, Director [Dr. Kristopher] Sanchez announced that Nevada OSHA had withdrawn the citations prior to the meeting pending further review,” a press release from the department said Wednesday. “Because the citations were withdrawn that morning by NV OSHA due to legal insufficiency, an informal conference was not convened or warranted. Had the legal review determined that the citations were validly issued, the process would have continued, and the company would have determined how to proceed with the next steps available to them in that process: informal conference, formal contest, or payment of the penalties as issued.”…
