Questions remain after Black Mountain admits past errors in permits, inspections

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WLOS) — For more than a year, questions have swirled over how Black Mountain Brewing’s upper deck was reviewed and why enforcement actions came years after it opened.

On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the Town of Black Mountain released a detailed timeline outlining permit and inspection history for 131 Broadway Ave., where the brewery operates. The document says former building inspector Dan Cordell reviewed permit activity from August 2017 through April 2021, followed by inspector Charlie Russell, who handled inspections until his retirement in August 2022.

In that timeline, the town says the required permits expired and that “no final inspections were requested by the property owner” on several projects tied to the upper deck and related work…
