Family of man who died on Rikers Island demands answers

NEW YORK (PIX11) — William Furse can recall the exact moment when he received the devastating news that his 32-year-old son, Aramis, had died while in custody on Rikers Island.

“My daughter came crying, crying,” Furse said. “She told me that my son had passed, that her brother had died.”

Furse said his son had been on Rikers for the last 10 months. But Department of Corrections officials said when a guard found his son inside his cell at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, that he appeared “unwell” and in “medical distress.”

Furse told PIX11 News that there were no known health issues or conditions Aramis had in the past. “None whatsoever,” Furse said…
