Second light rail stabbing ignites immigration, Iryna’s Law debate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — In the days after the latest stabbing on Charlotte’s light rail, some GOP lawmakers are calling for increased cooperation with federal immigration officials, and some want to see the National Guard sent in. US Rep. Mark Harris re-upped his call for a deployment this weekend.

“We thought it would be important for the National Guard to be a short-term fix while we begin to get things together. But again, we have been pushed by, Democrat Governor, a Democrat mayor. They’ve not been willing to step up and say, this is what we need,” Harris told Fox News.

The suspect in Friday’s stabbing, Oscar Solarzano, is in the U.S. illegally and had been previously deported. Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden told reporters on Monday that Solarzano had never been held in his jail and suggested responsibility fell on federal officials, especially with Border Patrol’s recent deployment to the Queen City…
