ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — North Georgia is in for a mild Wednesday with gusty winds, followed by a pleasant weekend start. But Sunday brings a change: a high pressure system will move in, bringing cooler temperatures and some rain chances, though exactly how cold it gets remains uncertain.
Wednesday: Windy and Mild
Today’s low clouds have been stubborn, keeping temperatures in the mid-40s to mid-50s across north Georgia. Expect those clouds to gradually clear tonight, with conditions remaining cool and dry.
Tomorrow will be a different story. Warm southwest winds will push highs into the upper 50s to low 60s — just above normal for early December. However, these winds will turn gusty in the afternoon and evening as a cold front approaches. Expect widespread winds of 20-25 mph across north Georgia.
The good news: there won’t be any rain with this front, just wind and a temperature drop as it passes through tomorrow evening.
Thursday and Friday: Pleasant and Warming
After the cold front moves through Wednesday night, conditions will turn pleasant again. Thursday will see highs in the mid-40s to mid-50s, but Friday will be noticeably warmer with highs climbing into the 60s to near 70 degrees — a significant warm-up to end the week.
Saturday: Mild Weekend Start
Saturday will remain relatively mild with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s across north Georgia. A weak disturbance moving across the Ohio River Valley may bring 10-20% chances for showers across areas along and north of I-85, but most of north Georgia should stay dry. It’s a pleasant day to be outside before the pattern changes.
Sunday: Colde Air Arrives
The big weather story arrives Sunday when a powerful high pressure system moves across the Southeast. A cold front will move through early Sunday morning, bringing 20% chances for showers across north and north central Georgia. Any rain that falls will be light — just a tenth to an eighth of an inch — and showers should fizzle out by afternoon…
