Hmong family worried for father’s health amid detainment

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A Hmong family from Lansing is asking for help to bring back their father after they say he was detained by the Department of Homeland Security — and they claim he is suffering from medical neglect while in federal custody.

Relatives of Alee Vang say he was taken in early November during an appointment to update his work authorization paperwork. His family says that after that appointment, he never returned home and was taken to a detention center.

Vang came to the United States as a refugee in 1994 with his mother and siblings after escaping Laos during the Vietnam War. His family says he spent the past three decades building the American Dream, and his family says it all came crashing down after one meeting.

Brooke Thao, his wife, and Sailormoon Vang, his daughter, say they’re living their worst nightmare.
