SAN DIEGO — As holiday package thefts surge, videos of booby-trapped deliveries are trending on social media, but attorneys are cautioning consumers that retaliating against porch pirates could result in serious criminal charges and civil lawsuits.
While many of the viral revenge videos are artificially generated by AI, the idea of punishing package thieves appeals to frustrated homeowners. However, legal experts say fighting back with trapped boxes is never acceptable.
