Dedicated bus lanes, public art coming with downtown Ann Arbor street makeover

ANN ARBOR, MI — A major streetscape overhaul of Fourth Avenue in downtown Ann Arbor is now only months away.

New drawings showing what a redesign of the block between William and Liberty streets could look like were presented during City Council’s annual planning session Monday, Dec. 8.

Plans include wider sidewalks, added space for outdoor dining outside restaurants, a mid-block crosswalk with flashing pedestrian signals near the entrance drive to Blake Transit Center, enhanced transit shelters and dedicated bus lanes paved in concrete. Potential spaces for public art also are shown as pixilated colors in the drawings.
