Knox County opens new dog park, aims for highest per capita total

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Knox County officials cut the ribbon on a new dog park as part of their effort to have the most dog parks per capita in the country on Tuesday.

The dog park is at the Knox County SportsPark at 8050 Oak Ridge Highway. It has separate play areas for large and small dogs, fencing, seating for the owners, water stations and more.

“Knox County is the best place to work, to live, to raise a family and to play, not only […] for those of us on two legs but also for those of us on four legs,” said Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs. “In our society, there’s so many things that push us apart, and it’s great to have things that bring us together like pets and dogs.”

The city plans to build one more dog park at Clayton Park in the next few years, thanks to a grant program funded by the Boyd Family Foundation.
