Man shoots, kills woman after being accused of stealing money from her grandmother, records show

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man shot and killed a woman after he was accused of stealing money from the woman’s grandmother, records show.

John Whitten, 24, was charged with second-degree murder and possession/employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony, according to his affidavit. It alleges that he shot to death McKenzie Beal on Saturday afternoon at a home in northeast Memphis after an argument over her grandmother’s debit.

Court documents state that Beal and her boyfriend accused Whitten stealing money from Beal’s grandmother. The argument escalated, leading Whitten to pull out a handgun and tell the couple, “I’ll shoot both of y’all,” according to the documents…
