Newport News to give $3M for Memorial Day music festival

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News City Council could spend more than $3 million to bring a “first-class” festival to the Peninsula on Memorial Day weekend.

Tuesday night, at its final meeting of 2025, City Council will vote on a proposal to give the Port Warwick Foundation the money in order to organize a festival that’ll include live performances, concerts, workshops, and presentations at several sites in the downtown area.

The nonprofit will be required to meet certain deadlines for the artist lineup and ticket sales in order to obtain the funds, which includes a $30,000 donation for the foundation, according to a proposed agreement…
