El Cajon Resident Linda Bagby Dies of Natural Causes While in Custody at Las Colinas Facility

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has released an update on the death of Linda Bagby, age 53. She died while in custody at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee, California. The incident happened on June 13, 2025. Deputies found Ms. Bagby unresponsive in her cell during dinner service at about 4:25 p.m. Deputies and medical staff began lifesaving efforts. Paramedics and the Santee Fire Department also responded. Ms. Bagby was pronounced dead at the facility at around 4:35 p.m.

Ms. Bagby was from El Cajon. She had been held at the facility since January 3, 2025. She faced charges including assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and felony vandalism. The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances of her death, as is standard procedure.

An autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office found that Ms. Bagby died from complications of dilated cardiomyopathy. Other factors included mild enlargement of the liver and spleen, chronic alcoholism, and morbid obesity. The death was classified as natural…
