‘We’re going to celebrate’: Demolition crews begin work on veterinary clinic that exploded due to gas leak

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) — Construction crews are demolishing what remains of the Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center building, four and a half months after an explosion destroyed the facility.

The blast occurred Aug. 19 when a driver hit a gas line along New Center Drive, tearing the veterinary clinic building apart and flinging debris into the air. The explosion happened just weeks before the clinic was scheduled to open.
