Driver had closed bottle of whiskey in front passenger seat before Montana Vista crash, court docs say

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Court documents obtained by KTSM 9 News show that the man who was arrested after a fatal crash this past weekend in the Montana Vista Area was speeding and had a closed bottle of whiskey in the front passenger seat.

As we previously reported, Gerard Anthony Nelson Jr., 29, was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Center for intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle after killing 60-year-old Lucia Villa and seriously injuring two other people.

Man arrested in fatal crash in Montana Vista area

Court documents state deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched just after 3 p.m. on Saturday to the intersection of Montana Avenue and Desert Meadows in reference to the crash.

When police arrived, they saw a two-vehicle crash involving a Chrysler, driven by Nelson Jr., and a Ford Focus. Deputies also saw Villa, who was ejected from the right rear passenger side of the Ford Focus and was lying unconscious in the roadway.
