ICE arrests US citizen, clashes with protestors in Minneapolis’ Cedar-Riverside neighborhood

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained a U.S. citizen and sprayed protestors with a chemical irritant in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis on Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.

A crowd gathered near Cedar Avenue and Sixth Street South as ICE agents allegedly patrolled a neighborhood known for its high proportion of Somali residents, and asked people for proof of citizenship.

A 20-year-old Minneapolis man of Somali descent – a U.S. citizen identified only as Mubashir – was “aggressively detained” when he tried to observe ICE activity happening in a parking lot near his workplace, per an email from Minneapolis City Council Member Jamal Osman to constituents…
