SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Construction on a new zinc-based battery energy storage system in Springfield has begun.
City Utilities of Springfield (CU) says a new zinc battery energy storage project is being built near the Blackman Water Treatment Plant near U.S. Highway 65, which can store five megawatts (MW) of capacity and help with residents’ growing need for electricity.
CU is partnering with Eos Energy Enterprises to install zinc-based batteries made in the United States that are non-flammable, designed to last longer than lithium-ion batteries and be a safer form of grid-scale energy storage, CU says…
