Suspect from deadly DWI case appears in court

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –  A suspected drunk driver accused of killing a man during a crash faced a judge today, but not for the crash.

Edgar Silva was accused of violating his terms of release while waiting for his trial in March 2026.

The crash

The initial crash happened in the early morning hours on August 18, 2024. Allegedly, Silva was driving drunk and began racing another truck down Central Avenue according to witnesses. That’s when he allegedly lost control and crashed into Carlos Lucero’s car, which was at a stop sign near 47th Street. Lucero was pronounced dead on scene.

His mother, Cindy Gallegos says, “My son was at a stop sign, and this truck came out of nowhere and hit him, going 80 miles an hour. The damage to my son’s body was horrific.”…
