Judge to decide if Northwestern DA must name criminally charged cops

BOSTON — A Suffolk Superior Court judge will decide whether the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office can withhold the names of police officers who were charged with crimes.

Officers with a history of criminal allegations or convictions against them are contained in documents called “Brady lists,” named for a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Brady v. Maryland, which found that police and prosecutors cannot withhold exculpatory evidence that might aid criminal defendants at trial.

Both Quemere and the DA’s Office agreed on moving toward summary judgment in August, which allows the arguments to be heard without a full trial, according to the court docket. Last Wednesday, Judge Julie E. Green heard arguments from both sides…
