A proposed Costco mega gas station in Novato has ignited fierce opposition from local residents who say the project goes against the Marin County town’s environmental commitments.
The 14-dispenser, 28-pump facility would be built next to the existing Costco warehouse at 300 Vintage Way and occupy about 1 acre. It would also be just steps away from a pediatric clinic and sensitive wetlands that stretch to the bay.
Despite Novato’s 2022 ban on new gas stations and its 2020 climate emergency declaration, the project survived because it went into the city review process before the ban took effect. On Monday, the Planning Commission accepted the draft Environmental Impact Report and directed the staff to prepare a final version.
