Belvidere family receives holiday cheer through Shop with a Cop program

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Belvidere Police Department’s Shop with a Cop program has brought holiday cheer to the Thompson family, who have faced financial hardship following a stroke and semi-truck accident involving Robert Thompson.

Robert Thompson suffered a brain bleed stroke and severe epilepsy after his accident two years ago, leaving him unable to drive. Since the accident Robert has suffered multiple seizures and has made multiple trips in and out of the hospital, including a recent stay over Thanksgiving. causing significant medical expenses for the family.

“It just hits home and you have to put your money elsewhere towards medical expenses and medical supplies, and you have to cut back on your grocery fees, cut back on Christmas,” Bethany Thompson, wife of Robert Thompson said. “You have to be really wise with what you do have.”…
