Harlem School District halts restructuring plan amid public outcry

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — The Harlem School District on Wednesday announced it would be pausing a restructuring plan that would see the closure of two elementary schools to address a budget deficit.

Superintendent Dr. R. Terrell Yarbrough said the recommendation to pause the process came as a result of a public hearing Tuesday night.

“District leaders expressed appreciation for the strong engagement shown throughout the process and noted that community input remains essential as the district evaluates options moving forward,” Assistant Superintendent Jason Blume said in a press release…
