BALLSTON SPA — Brendan Carl, the Saratoga Springs man who shot and killed his friend and roommate, Michael Collins, with a pellet gun last spring, was ordered Thursday to serve one to three years in prison.
County Judge James R. Davis imposed the sentence after hearing emotional testimony from Collins’ family, some of whom asked for mercy and others who said they couldn’t forgive Carl’s actions. It all unfolded as the victim’s loved ones and Carl were crying in the courtroom throughout the proceeding.
Collins’ father spoke first, asking the judge to spare Carl from further prison time. John Collins said his son would have wanted that. But Collins’ mother Deborah Collins urged the judge to impose the punishment that he deemed fit…
