NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer was injured while attempting to remove a man identified by ICE as living in the country illegally from his car on Saturday, according to US District Attorney Bryan P. Stirling’s office.
The reported driver, 24-year-old Alexander Garcia Vargas, was illegally residing in North Charleston, according to ICE, and now faces a charge of assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal officer.
Stirling’s office said that agents with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) were supporting an immigration enforcement operation in North Charleston on Dec. 6 when a vehicle registered in Garcia Vargas’ name was “encountered.” Garcia Vargas had a court order for his removal, according to ICE records, Stirling’s office said…
