These 8 historic Georgia buildings got $500K in grants from Fox Theatre

Georgia has hundreds of modern movie theaters and stages for your viewing pleasure. There are also some vintage venues that have stood for decades as pieces of history. But if they don’t get help, they may not stand forever.

That’s why the renowned Fox Theatre in Atlanta recently donated a total of $500,000 in grants to several historic venues. Here’s which ones received the grant, and some details collected by 11 Alive on how the money will be spent:

Colored Memorial Building Auditorium

Brunswick, GA

The Colored Memorial School and Risley High School campus is the principal historic school that served Brunswick’s Black students for the early through the mid-20th century. The Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority will receive $45,000 to restore auditorium windows in a memorial honoring Black WWI veterans.

DeSoto Theatre

Rome, GA
