PNC workers voice concerns online about a rumored return-to-office mandate

PNC Bank employees are bracing for what many fear is coming next: a full-scale return to the office, five days a week – at a time when companies nationally are leaning further into hybrid work rather than away from it.

But the warning didn’t arrive in a memo or a policy update from the company. According to posts on an online forum called thelayoff.com, it surfaced during the bank’s quarterly fireside chat on Dec. 3, where workers say CEO Bill Demchak hinted at the imminent shift.

According to one widely circulated post, Mr. Demchak stated that remote work “benefits employees” and “harms the company,” and added that he was “trying to imagine a world where he is asking you to do your job.” The thread has received 3,700 views and drawn more than 20 replies…
