Congregants are disappearing in droves from the Rev. Pedro López’s church in Pasadena. This year alone, he said, he’s counted at least 20 fewer families attending services at San Pedro/Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church.
They haven’t soured on Christianity or moved away. Instead, they’ve each had at least one family member who’s been deported by federal immigration authorities under President Trump’s mass deportation operation this year, López said.
“They’ve taken the father, the husband, the provider for the family. And after that, the family is in crisis mode and they’re obviously scared to leave the house,” López said in Spanish outside of a federal detention facility downtown…
