NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Metropolitan Crime Commission released a report showing reductions in violent crime and an increase in felony convictions in New Orleans.
According to the report, New Orleans saw sustained reductions in major violent crime from 2022 through 2024. A 55% decline, from 1,582 incidents in 2022 to 704 in 2024.

The felony conviction rate increased in each of the three post-pandemic years, rising from 20% in 2022 to 37% in 2024. However, it lags behind the 44% felony arrest to conviction rate in 2019. The report criticized District Attorney Jason Williams for not convicting as many people as the prior DA.
The report said Williams’ office declined to prosecute 22% of drug arrests and 51% of arrests for weapons last year. The MCC suggested that felony convictions could be increased by pursuing more weapons and drug felony cases…
