Spokane County Achieves Clean Air Standards for Carbon Monoxide and Particulate Matter After 20 Years

Spokane County has completed a 20-year federally mandated maintenance period for air quality as of August 2024. The county now complies with clean air standards for carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM10). In previous decades, the region did not meet these health-based air quality standards.

April Westby, Executive Director of the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency, stated that the county meets clean air standards most days. There are some exceptions during wildfire season.
