Indiana farmers split on federal aid as trade pressures and high costs squeeze margins

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Indiana farmers are reacting to a new $12 billion federal aid package announced by the Trump administration. The Farmer Bridge Assistance Program aims to help farmers hurt by ongoing trade wars and inflation. The program utilizes funds from trade revenue.

Owner of Warpup Farms Brian Warpup said the aid provides much-needed short-term relief after multiple seasons of elevated input costs. This includes seed, fertilizer, equipment, and land costs, while corn and soybean prices throughout 2025 have remained largely stagnant. He notes the imbalance has left many farms short at the end of the year.

“When you have high input costs going in and not as much coming out, we’re kind of short,” Warpup said, calling the program a welcome pressure release for farmers’ pocketbooks…
