CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State agents are investigating the death of a 23-year-old Charleston County inmate as a homicide, the Charleston County Coroner’s Office said.
Mary Brucato of Ladson was found unresponsive in her cell at Al Cannon Detention Center on Aug. 11, 2025, just before 3 p.m. She was later pronounced deceased.
During the investigation, Brucato’s cause of death was determined to be complications of fentanyl intoxication, recent cocaine use, and medical neglect, according to a spokesperson for the coroner’s office…
