PLAINWELL, Mich. (WOOD) — An organization that supports emergency responders has fixed up and paid off the mortgage for the home of a former Kalamazoo police officer who was seriously injured in a car crash in 2022.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation said the renovations to Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer Thomas Maher’s Plainwell home include Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant doors, pull-down accessible closet rods and kitchen shelves, a ramp to his backyard, an expanded and improved deck, repairs to the driveway and smart home upgrades.
In a statement released by Tunnel to Towers, Maher said the renovations mean he can “now go through every door and access (his) basement without getting stuck” and that the various improvements “removed so many barriers” in his home…
