Woman deposits $6k stolen check, charged with fraud, affidavit says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis Police Department has arrested and charged a woman accused of depositing a stolen check for thousands of dollars.

According to the affidavit, on August 13, a plumbing company reported that one of their checks was altered and cashed for $6,209.58.

The original check was made out for $4,209.58 and payable to Edward Jones; the altered version was made payable to an unknown suspect, later identified as Danyel Ganey, 24.

The business’ bookkeeper reported the discrepancy to police on Sept. 24 after receiving notification from the company’s bank; MPD later learned that Ganey was not known to the company nor was she issued a check…
