New Wake County Program to Support Local Nonprofits Now Accepting Applications

Wake County, North Carolina, will launch a pilot program called the Wake County Nonprofit Institute: Partnering to Enhance Community Organizational Sustainability (PECOS). The program is designed to help small nonprofits and community-based organizations improve their operations and expand their services in the county. Applications for the 2026 cohort are open until January 5, 2026. The program will start in early 2026.

The institute is a joint project of Wake County Public Health, the Budget and Management Department, and the Office of Organizational Excellence. County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings said the initiative is intended to support organizations that serve local residents.

PECOS will include two groups of up to 20 organizations each. The program will last four months. Participants will attend monthly training sessions and receive practical tools, resources, one-on-one consulting, and peer learning opportunities.
