Judge denies new trial for woman convicted in North Myrtle Beach restaurant shooting

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A judge denied a motion for a new trial Thursday for a woman convicted of shooting and killing her co-worker inside a restaurant.

LaFredia Todd was found guilty in January of killing Quentin Johnson inside the Nacho Hippo restaurant in July 2022. A judge sentenced her to 36 years in prison.

Todd’s defense team claimed new evidence had surfaced in the case and argued there should be a new trial because a psychologist was not allowed to testify about her mental state at the time of the shooting.
