Redlands Unified removes and restricts contested books from library shelves

The Redlands Unified School District board voted on Tuesday to remove a challenged book from its high school libraries and restrict student access to another book following parent outcry, according to Redlands Daily Facts.

In a 3-2 vote, board members voted to remove “Push” by Sapphire, and in a unanimous vote, to restrict “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison to students older than 18 and whose parents give consent. Both books have been targeted in school districts across the country for mention of sexual content and have been two of the most banned books in the U.S.
