Beaufort County and Redfish Holdings have reached a settlement regarding the ownership and management of Melrose Landing on Daufuskie Island. The agreement was finalized in late November 2025. It is part of the county’s plan to improve public ferry access to the island. Starting December 9, 2025, Beaufort County will own Melrose Landing Road, parking areas, structures, walkways, the main pier, and docking facilities on the northeast side of the pier. The county expects this change to improve safety and provide a permanent, public embarkation point for residents and visitors.
Redfish Holdings will keep control of the southwest docking facilities and a 1.15-acre parcel along Cooper River Landing Road, which serves the Melrose Resort. Each party will manage its own area under the terms of the settlement. County officials, including Hank Amundson, have stated that this agreement supports Daufuskie Island’s transportation infrastructure.
The county plans immediate repairs and safety improvements at Melrose Landing. These include securing or removing unsafe floating docks, replacing decking and handrails, and repairing the boarding barge.
