WORCESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission on Thursday unanimously approved a sweeping set of final regulations that will allow adults to purchase and consume cannabis on-site for the first time in the state’s history.

The 4-0 vote finalizes three new license types and clears the way for a new era of social consumption beginning in early 2026.
After more than two years of research, public comment, and stakeholder engagement, three license types were finalized–Supplemental, Hospitality, and Event Organizer. Once implemented, Massachusetts will become the first state in New England to permit regulated social consumption, a move commissioners said expands economic opportunity while honoring voter intent from the 2016 ballot initiative legalizing adult-use marijuana.
