Paxton’s probe into San Antonio city budget won’t change plans, officials say

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is rolling out a new audit system to investigate the budgets of over 1,000 cities in the Lone Star State — including San Antonio.

The probe is part of a plan to enforce a fresh state law, known as Senate Bill 1851, which was enacted in September to “ensure the hardworking people of Texas receive municipal budget transparency and that municipalities do not engage in unlawful tax increases.”

That’s according to Paxton, who in October ordered several Texas cities to halt “potentially illegal” tax increases under the new law. Those cities included La Marque, Odessa, Tom Bean and Whitesboro…
