Crews Contain Small Wildfire North of Boulder

Multiple agencies responded to a small wildland fire yesterday afternoon that ignited north of Boulder near Longhorn Road. The Boulder County Communications Center received a call reporting the fire at around 2:22 p.m.

The fire was approximately a quarter acre in size and was in “mop up” within an hour according to Boulder County Senior Communications Specialist Carrie Haverfield. “Mop up” is defined as “extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines, felling snags, and trenching logs to prevent rolling after an area has burned, to make a fire safe, or to reduce residual smoke,” according to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group.

Agencies that responded to the fire included the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Fire Management team, Boulder Fire Rescue, and Boulder Rural. No crews remain on scene today. The cause of the fire is still under investigation…
