On February 2, 2023, the Auto Theft Task Force located a stolen Hyundai Tucson in southern El Paso County, Colorado. The vehicle was linked to a felony carjacking involving a handgun. The driver, Devon Bobian, was a wanted felon with a record of violent crime. When Fountain Police tried to arrest Bobian, he fled. Officers pursued him at high speed. The chase ended on South Academy Boulevard after police disabled the vehicle.
After the pursuit, Bobian left the car and moved toward Officer Julian Becerra, crossing over other vehicles. During the incident, Officer Becerra fell over a guardrail and suffered severe injuries. He was hospitalized for nine days and died on February 11, 2023.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Detectives collected evidence that linked Bobian’s actions to Officer Becerra’s death. Prosecutors then filed felony murder charges…
