Cevin Andre Belton, a man previously convicted of a felony, has been sentenced to 45 months in federal prison for both drug trafficking and illegally carrying a firearm, as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The 40-year-old resident of the District of Columbia pled guilty to the charges, culminating in the pronounced sentence on September 5 by Judge Trevor N. McFadden.
The case surfaced following an incident on March 22, when Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers on patrol witnessed Belton’s suspicious behavior and engaged in a pursuit. Belton, noticing the officers, fled, and as the chase unfolded, he discarded a black semi-automatic pistol before being apprehended. The officers recovered 15.5 grams of crack cocaine and $157 in cash from Belton, who later, admitted his intention to distribute the drugs, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Anthony Spotswood, ATF Special Agent in Charge, along with MPD Chief Pamela A. Smith, confirmed the sentencing which includes three years of supervised release following the prison term.
