SLED: Suspects shot by Batesburg-Leesville officers had been trying to pass counterfeit money

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is providing some new details into what led up to an incident this week where Batesburg-Leesville Police shot two suspects following a traffic stop.

The incident happened around 12 p.m. Wednesday outside a gas station on East Church Street in Batesburg-Leesville.

SLED agents said Friday that the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department had notified Batesburg-Leesville Police that two people in a Honda Accord were trying to pass counterfeit money at liquor stores. Police later saw a vehicle matching that description and pulled it over for a traffic stop…
