Speeding driver in custody after chase ends in crash off St. Joe Center Road

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A driver is in custody after speeding through a school zone, refusing to stop for police and hitting another car Friday morning on the city’s northeast side.

The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) confirmed to WANE 15 an officer was patrolling in a school zone on St. Joe Center Road before 9 a.m. when a black Mustang sped by. The FWPD later said the driver, identified by police as 34-year-old Gregory Allen Masterson Jr., reportedly drove 56 mph in a 35 mph school zone.

The officer tried to pull the car over, but Masterson allegedly refused to stop while weaving in and out of traffic.
