New Hanover enters agreement to conserve Cape Fear River west bank

New Hanover County will consider spending millions to conserve a tract of land along the west bank of the Cape Fear River.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will vote on approving the purchase of 28.55 acres just north of Battleship North Carolina at a regular meeting on Dec. 15. County staff have entered into a non-binding intent to purchase agreement for $2,240,000 by Dec. 31.

The county became aware of the purchase opportunity back in October. The seller’s original asking price was $2.4 million and the land has an appraised value of $2,475,000.
