Wildlife agency relocates bear found under Colorado Springs porch

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) had a bear of a time on Dec. 11, when officers had to relocate a 200-pound black bear from under a home in Colorado Springs.

According to CPW, officers estimated that the female bear was around three years old. Responders temporarily immobilized the bear, retrieved her from under a family’s deck, loaded her into a wildlife trailer, and gave her a “wake-up” drug before she was released to a better habitat west of Pikes Peak.

CPW also even took he time to give a safe wildlife education moment to the children of the house, with parent approval, of course.

Parks and Wildlife would like to remind Coloradans and visitors that attractants like bird seed, pet food, and trash can prevent bears from seeking out a den in the wild when they enter their torpor, their natural winter state akin to hibernation.
