More details on what happened. First: I’m not going to be spending a lot of time going over the arraignment or the exact details of what happened after Sherrone Moore left Michigan’s campus. Nor will I be talking about the staffer in question. The relevant part of what went down, as far as this space is concerned, stopped after Moore was not de-escalated before leaving campus and immediately did something that got him arrested. What happens next for him is no longer the University of Michigan’s business.

I do think it is important to look at how Moore got the head job and whether or not other people in the department—Warde Manuel primarily—bear some responsibility for what transpired. So there are some details in this Wall Street Journal story that are relevant:

In mid-October, a tipster had contacted the university first alleging that the football coach had conducted an inappropriate relationship with someone on his staff, according to a person familiar with the situation. The university opened an investigation but found no evidence to confirm the tip, since both Moore and the woman involved denied the relationship. Still, the university decided to hire an outside law firm to dig further into the matter…
