Former Union County deputy charged with assaulting woman during arrest

UNION COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A former Union County sheriff’s deputy has been indicted following excessive force allegations that led to his termination earlier this year.

In April, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation special agents began investigating the circumstances of a use-of-force incident involving now-former Union County Deputy Ashton Cole Lambert. Investigators determined he had used excessive force while arresting a woman in Maynardville on April 10.

He was fired by the Union County Sheriff’s Office when the allegations surfaced.

On December 2, a Union County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Lambert with one count of assault and one count of official oppression. He turned himself on December 11 and was booked into the Union County Jail on a $2,500 bond…
